How QR Pet Tags Work

One QR tag, two simple journeys

Every PetIDTag QR tag carries its own unique, secure web address. There is no printed claim code to type and no code card to match to the tag.

When your tag arrives

  1. Open the packaging and uncover the unique QR code engraved on the tag.
  2. Scan the tag with your phone camera.
  3. Sign in or create your secure PetIDTag account.
  4. Confirm the first-scan activation.
  5. Add your pet's name, photo, species, breed, markings, approach advice and any important medical notes.
  6. Add your preferred contact number and choose whether finders can call you, open WhatsApp or send a private message.
  7. Check the finder view, then attach the tag using the supplied colour-matched split ring.

The QR code printed on the front of the packaging is only a demonstration. It lets customers see how the service works without exposing the real tag QR before purchase. Only the QR code engraved on the tag activates that individual tag.

If somebody finds your pet

  1. They scan the engraved QR code with any modern phone camera. No app is required.
  2. They see the public pet card and lost-pet message you have chosen to show.
  3. They can call or open WhatsApp when you have enabled those options.
  4. If you keep your number private, they can still send you a protected message.
  5. They can choose to share their current location after giving permission on their phone.

The tag is not a live GPS tracker. A location is shared only when a finder deliberately chooses to send it.

You stay in control

  • Your phone number is shown only when you enable it.
  • Your pet details and contact preferences can be updated at any time without replacing the tag.
  • You can switch lost mode on when your pet is missing and turn it off again when they are home.
  • An activated tag cannot be silently claimed by another account.
